HPC Connection Workshop (HPCC) is a HPC-users and HPC-providers based, international communication platform. The applications of HPC cover Chemistry, Physics, Engineering Design, Bioinformatics, Animation, Petroleum, Medicare & Medicine, and Finance etc. Therefore, their applications are widely ranged. According to the characteristics, the workshop is committed to gather experienced users and providers, especially in Asia, one topic at a time, as an accompanied event of Asia Student Supercomputer Challenge (ASC), International Supercomputing Conference (ISC), and Supercomputing (SC). Through the workshop, we hope to setup an opportunity to share knowledge on this interesting method & result, HPC selection, and foreseeing.

HPCC is an upgrade sister event to Workshop of HPC in China (WHC). The topics of the latest two WHCs are computing center and earth simulation. Many directors and scientists from eminent computing centers, institutes, and universities attended, including US, Bulgaria, Irish, Korea, Japan, and China etc.

We are also interested in the HPC applications on specific areas, such as climate. The International Workshop on Climate Change Research was held in Sep. 2012, in which scientists from Saudi Arabia and China had a deep discussion.

Objectives and outputs of the workshop

For the HPC Connection Workshop (Shanghai, Apr, 2013), the topic is ‘the opportunity and challenge for Asia HPC’, which includes, but does not limited to the introduction of HPC hardware, software, applications in each country, university, and organization, and the sharing of government projects or upcoming cooperation opportunities.

We expect three types of outputs. First, the acquaintance and the formation of Asia HPC community. Second, to promote the international collaboration of HPC in Asia. Third, the approache to optimize the Asia Student Supercomputer Challenge.

The committees, invited scientists, experts, and government officials of Asia Student Supercomputer Challenge will be the participants.

Management arrangements

INSPUR and Shanghai Jiao Tong Univeristy will provide human resources and partial financing support. Dr. Qing (Kitty) Ji, Chief Scientist of HPC application and International Collaboration Manager, will be in charge of the preparation, deployment and conclusion.

Dr. Ji obtained her Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2007. Before joining INSPUR, she served as postdoctoral associates in MIT, USA and CNRS, France. Till 2012, Dr. Ji has had ~20 publications, participated in a composition of college curriculum in Chemistry, and had ~10 conference presentations. Her academy background can be found at http://scholar.google.com/citations?user=1m4f-tEAAAAJ and http://cn.linkedin.com/pub/kitty-ji/38/7a1/b12 .
